بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم
During the month of #Ramadan, Allah Ta’ala commands the believers towards fasting so that we may become pious. -Surah Baqarah v184. #Fasting also teaches us patience, steadfastness and self control which is essentially #Sabr, for while we are fasting we have to restrain ourselves from eating and drinking, bad behavior and other sins. During the month of #Ramadaan we are also encouraged to do other good deeds like disburse Zakaat, recitation of the Holy Quran and extra Salah like Taraweeh. This spirit of #Ramadhaan is explained very nicely in the verse of the Holy Quran from the first Juz:
And seek help in Sabr and Salat, and surely prayer is hard indeed save to those who lean towards Me with their hearts. – Sarah Baqarah v45.
During the month of Ramadaan our skills of Sabr are tested and improved (In Sha Allah). The Holy Prophet ﷺ said that Sabr is of three kinds :-
– Sabr at the time of difficulties or hardships,
– Sabr when doing good deeds, and
– Sabr from performing sins.
Hadrath Hasan Basri radi Allah anhu said that Sabr is to restrain yourself from committing Haraam deeds and and to perform the Fard deeds. -Tafseer Durre Manthur
While we are fasting during the month of Ramadaan we remain steadfast during that time. We don’t eat; drink or smoke cigarettes. Even little children adhere to these rules because we are aware that Allah Ta’ala has commanded us to #fast.
Also while we #fasting, to ensure to get maximum rewards, we refrain from back biting, lies, deceit and other actions. Thus fasting is teaching us to be steadfast against sins.
From this we can see that fasting guides us towards inculcating two types of Sabr viz. Sabr while doing good deeds and being steadfast against doing sins.
The reward for Sabr is very immense. One day the Holy Prophet ﷺ didn’t see a person. So he asked after him. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said that he made an intention to go into the mountains and spend his time in the Ibadat of Allah. The Prophetﷺ told him to make Sabr for one moment against preforming sins is better than 40 years of Ibadat in seclusion.
#Ramadhan is an opportune time for us to inculcate these actions of Sabr and In sha Allah they will remain with us throughout the whole year. Ameen
